Quill Art

I tried this last year after seeing something similar on Pinterest. It was not as easy as it looked and it took much longer than anticipated. In the larger one, I used pages from Azure Magazine. The paper was very thick and hard to curl, but the colors were lovely and the thicker paper gave it heft. I made another with Nevada maps for a friend. The map was more pliable.

I used:
stick glue on paper when rolling
pair of needle-nose pliers to roll the paper consistently
glue gun to adhere to board
paper was cut in strips one inch wide and folded in half

Look on YouTube for some great tutorials on the techniques on different shapes.

Kids Crafting: Aluminum Foil Sculpture

I had the great privilege of holding a mini-craft project at the Women and Children’s Center of the Sierra. My friend Pam runs the center which helps women escape poverty. Last week, she held a fun day for the families. Good Shepard Clothes Closet was there to give out school clothes, kids could get immunized and more. So while mom was seeing staff inside, the kids could join me and KNPB for some craft projects.

I liked this project. Only need glue, paper, aluminum foil and black paint. This project was a gamble. I was not sure if the kids would like it. Of course they surprised me with such creativity. Please note the unicorn.

Spirit Sticks, Truth Sticks, Talking Sticks, Prayer Sticks

This was a really fun project for the g-friends. No one needed to have an ounce of talent or creativity. But we all have some, don’t we? Just a little? Down deep? Regardless….a talking stick

I asked my friends to come over on Valentine’s day and bring a stick. It was great fun. The ingredients included fabric, wire, ribbon, yarn, bottle caps, beads, feathers, and wine.

I also made some lovely hanging art for the yard.
